BassPlayer - Holiday - 2012
The Bass Department at Berklee College of Music has matriculated some of the best young players in the biz. With this year’s appointment of 6-string fretless phenom Steve Bailey to department chair, that talent flow is sure to turn into a torrent. We catch up with Steve to talk about his transition from journeyman bassist with artists ranging from Dizzy Gillespie to Jethro Tull to his gig as top prof at Beantown’s best bass hang.
Elsewhere, we catch up with rockers Rex Brown and Tony Franklin, and examine a singer-songwriter tour-de-force in Jackson Browne’s “Jamaica, Say You Will,” featuring studio legend Leland Sklar’s melodic bass work.
We check out the new solidbody U-Bass from Kala, a fancy import preamp from H.A.O., and Zoom’s feature-rich B3 multi-effect amp simulator, and woodshed with masterclass columns on jazz and Afro-Cuban bass. Download and Dig Deeper!
