MIX - February 2015 - Symphonic Surround

This month MIX talks to conductor Andrew Litton, audio consultant Mike Pappas, producer Leslie Ann Jones and president of Neumann Berlin Wolfgang Fraissinet about recording the Colorado Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in 5.1 for a planned release on Blu-ray Audio in spring 2015.

We also talk to engineer Mark Neill and artist JD McPherson about recording McPherson's latest album, Let the Good Times Roll. Veteran session and touring keyboardist/producer Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers, Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways) and composer/keyboardist/engineer/producer Ran Pink discuss the creation and expansion of their multiroom facility in Van Nuys, Fonogenic Studios.

The Live section features an All-Access pass to Primus and a look into Papa Roach on tour. And this month's Classic Track tells the story behind Tom Waits' hit, "I Don't Wanna Grow Up." We also have a guide to audio interfaces with preamps.

The February issue's Regional section focuses on Florida, and features news from SAE Institute Miami, Evermore Sound, The Vibe Recording and 8 Beat Audio, as well as sessions from My Platinum Sound, Sonic Recording, HeadZoo Sound, Velvet Basement, Gasoline Alley Recording Studios and more.
