This month MIX talks Sweetwater founder and CEO Chuck Surack, producer/engineer Mark Hornsby, and producer Phil Naish about the the building/creation of Sweetwater Studios and the philosophy behind this high-end studio's goal to be a destination/experience for artists.

We also talk to film sound mixer Oliver Tarney about the sound behind the movie Exodus: Gods and Kings. Producer Joe Henry and engineer Ryan Freeland discuss recording Bettye LaVette's latest album, Worthy, and Dirty Loops talk about recording their latest, Loopified.

The Live section features a tour profile of the Black Keys, a story on Bella Electric Strings, an interview with co-owner/producer/engineer Phil Stache of Smoke Jazz Club about Smoke Sessions, and a peek into the David Bowie exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art. And this month's Classic Track tells the story behind LeAnn Rimes' smash hit, "Blue." We also have a guide to consoles and controllers for live sound, as well as a guide for portable loudspeakers.
