Chapter 14: Leslie West-style Soloing

Description:

This final chapter pays tribute to the distinctive and  highly influential soloing style of Mountain’s Leslie West, with a musical example played in the key of E, along the lines of the song “Dreams of Milk and Honey,” demonstrating some of West’s signature phrasing techniques and his highly polished string bending and wide finger vibrato. Also discussed are West’s use of the E minor pentatonic, E major pentatonic and A minor pentatonic scales and his go-to fingering patterns for these scales, as well as his use of the neck pickup to achieve a dark, throaty lead tone.
